Figure Checklist

List compiled by Ruben Nuñez using James Reid’s variant country checklist

malaysia

Masters of the Universe was produced in Malaysia for both the American and International market. A total 33 figures were produced. The majority were readily available for sale in the USA, with Prince Adam and Terror Claws Skeletor as the notable exceptions. Malaysia figures tend to be characterized by high quality mold and paint apps and include many of the finals wave 5 + 6 releases. Notable variants in this COO (Country of Origin) include He-Man (both hard and soft head), Faker hard head (both small and big feet), and the Euro Prince Adam (both hard and soft head).

TAIWAN

Masters of the Universe Made in Taiwan

Taiwan produced the very first Masters of the Universe releases, such as the original 8-back figures (He-Man, Skeletor, Mer-Man, Beastman, Stratos, Teela, Man-at-Arms and Zodac). A total of 21 figures were SOLD, but the final count is 22 since it includes the Special Edition He-Man (aka Wonderbread) that was a promotional giveaway. Notable variants include Blue Beard Stratos, Green Belt Mer-Man, Peach Cheeks Skeletor, Red Dot Man-at-Arms and the almost mythical Green Eye Teela.

HONG KONG/CHINA

Hong Kong (and China) produced a total of 29 figures. A number of them are highly sought after wave 6 figures such as the fan favorite Scareglow, Ninjor and Sorceress. All 29 figures were produced for the American market, but some had variants that were only for Euro Release (such as the Big Feet Skeletor).

USA

Masters of the Universe USA marked

Only 2 figures were produced in the USA. A fairly common Battle Armor Skeletor, and an extremely rare USA marked He-Man. Interestingly enough, a great deal of the accessories and cardbacks made for the Mabamex figures were made in the USA.

MEXICO (MABAMEX)

Mabamex, in Tijuana, Mexico, produced a total of 19 (5.5”) figures for the Masters of the Universe line. These figures were produced for sale in the USA; not to be confused with the Aurimat figures that were for the Mexico market. Notable variants in this line include the Dark Face Grizzlor, Black Belt Leech, as well as the 3 motion picture figures (Saurod, Gwildor, and Blade). Oddly, Mabamex also produced (in extremely limited numbers) the Giant Tytus, only sold in the Euro market.

The Boxes contained the figure, bagged accessories, and a mini-comic in spanish marked LOS AMOS. A total of 17 different mini-comic titles were produced. ARGENTINA (TOP TOYS)

Top Toys in Argentina produced a total of 40 figures for the Masters of the Universe vintage line. Due to quality control, production and mold issues they appear to have made the largest amount of variants of any other COO. This has led to TT figures being highly collectable and sought after for their differences. You will find for example, He-man having well over 15 variations! Top Toys also produced perhaps the most notorious and sought after variant in the world, the Kobra Khan Camuflado (Khamo Khan)! A few other notable variants include Buzz-Off with dark arms, long hair Moss Man, Christmas-colored Modulok, and muscular leg reedition Mer-Man.

VENEZUELA (ROTOPLAST)

MOTU Rotoplast Venezuela - Complete Line
In Venezuela, Rotoplast produced a total of 25 different figures, in 4 waves, over the span of only 2 years (1986-1987).
Even though these figures only had a short fabrication span, the massive production of these figures allowed them to be sold over many years, with reports of figures found sold as late as 1995. Not only this, but they were exported to various neighboring Latin-American countries.
Characteristics that make Rotoplast stand out are rubber arms (on many figures), muted paint apps, as well as tons of paint app variations from one figure to the next. Notable variants in this line include Ninjor with round sticker, Mekaneck with orange mass, Ram Man with gold cuffs, and Whiplash with dark limbs. Rotoplast also boasts perhaps the rarest one-off variants, such as Buzz-Off with He-Man shorts, dark blue Battle Armor Skeletor, and Spikor with Skeletor arms.
While these figures were initially packaged on conventional blisters, towards the end of the line (presumably) due to lack of bubbles they were packed in cellophane bags along with their corresponding cardback and comic.

BRAZIL (ESTRELA)

Estrela in Brazil produced 18 figures for the Masters line. This short, but small line is characterized by vibrant colors and beautiful paint apps. The most notable figures from this line include Mer-Man (with orange armor!), Prince Adam (with nail-like belt buckle) and Beast Man (with phosphorescent orange tones). Estrela curiously have the rarest of all the Mini-Comics. Estrela Mini-Comics were “redrawn” and re-edited to better match the figures they released. They also released a number of Mini-Comics that were never published by any other COO!

FRANCE

France produced 37 figures for their “Les Maitres De L'Univers” line. The figures tend to be colorful and beautiful, albeit fragile. Standouts of the France line include the 7 soft boot figures (He-Man, Fisto, Man-at-Arms, Jitsu, Triklops, Thunderpunch He-Man, and Battle Armor He-Man), as well as big arm Fisto with dark katana and Stinkor with blue He-Man mold shield.

SPAIN

Congost for the Spain line produced a whopping 67 figures! While Spain figures tend to more or less resemble their American release counterparts, they have a number of important standouts. Perhaps the most well known are the Laser Power He-Man and Laser Light Skeletor figures (only produced in Spain and Italy towards the end of the line). Some of my favorite Spain figures are not as well known, yet truly amazing, such as the Fisto with lilac Katana and Mosquitor with blue gun.

ITALY

The Italy factory produced 11 (5.5”) figures, plus both Giants (Tytus and Megator). Of those 5.5” figures, they produced both Laser figures just like the Spain line. Other standouts in the Italy line are the Saurod with pinkish-bronze hues and Battle Armor He-Man with unique yellow highlights.

INDIA (LEO)

Leo India released 31 figures for their Masters of the Universe line. Those include some of the rarest most beautiful and sought after of the Motu Variants. Notable variants include Battle Armor Skeletor (using the BA He-Man mold), Spikor with white trident, and Faker with a full set of skeletor accessories in orange as well as “Bandit-style” face paint app. Skeletors in this line are known for their wild colors (blackish, purple, blue, pink!) be it by factory or by fading/decoloration.

GREECE

At only 2 figures produced, the Greece factory had the smallest line of all COOs. Nevertheless, Greece figures are absolutely stunning and quite a challenge to acquire.
