SUMMARY

The Los Amos Man-at-Arms is distinguished by its intense blue helmet and belt, vibrant yellow helmet highlights, and dark green skin tones. All accessories are marked HONG KONG and range from dark to medium orange depending on the variant. These accessories are opaque and notably more rigid than those from Taiwan or Hong Kong releases.

Produced by Aurimat, the first Los Amos Man-at-Arms was released in 1984, the debut year of Los Amos del Universo in Mexico. This early figure used the original Hong Kong molds and is marked © Mattel, Inc. 1981, while the accessories are marked © Mattel, Inc. 1981 HONG KONG. The mace is also marked HONG KONG. Accessories on this first issue are a deep, dark orange, and the right hand includes a molded ridge for improved weapon grip.

By 1986, the figure’s torso mold had been updated to read © Mattel, Inc. 1981 MEXICO. This later release removed the ridge in the right hand, and the accessories—still marked © Mattel, Inc. 1981 HONG KONG—shifted to a lighter orange tone.

At first glance, the 1984 Los Amos figure can be mistaken for its Hong Kong counterpart. However, several details set them apart: the Los Amos version features an intense blue helmet versus the lighter blue of the Hong Kong release, a darker green body versus the HK’s lighter tones, and soft head, whereas Hong Kong Man-at-Arms figures use hard or semi-hard heads. Additionally, the Hong Kong figure is marked © Mattel, Inc. 1983, and lacks the hand ridge seen on the first Los Amos issue.
