Kobra Khan

SUMMARY:

Kobra Khan, the “evil master of snakes,” was produced in Taiwan, Mexico (Aurimat), Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, India, and France. Equipped with the ability to control his prey with his “evil hypnotic mist,” he can spray water stored in his chest chamber by pressing down on his head.

The Taiwan Kobra Khan features dark green tones, light brown scales with no divisions (the Taiwan Kobra Khan has scale separations), light yellowish eyeliner, and scarring on the inner tube. Released in the third year of the Los Amos del Universo production (1986), the Aurimat Kobra Khan used Taiwan molds. The figure is marked  © Mattel Inc. TAIWAN 1983 in a very small type, and the gun is marked TAIWAN with a small batch number.

The Auri Kobra Khan was released with two distinct variations: a standard green mouth and a rarer white mouth variation. The sprayer is thought to be shared with the Dragon Blaster Aurimat. A common symptom of the Aurimat head and limbs is that they develop a dark green virus spotting. Another condition that is seen with some figures is that they darken significantly. While this “defect” in the plastic would not be a true variant distinguisher, it is still very cool and highly collectible.

While the gun is marked TAIWAN, it's slightly flexible and mid-orange, as opposed to the rigid, lighter orange gun found with the standard Taiwan Kobra Khan. It also sinks in water, unlike the Taiwan gun that floats.

A scarce variation of this gun exists marked MEXICO, but that gun is generally associated with Webstor and, in some instances, with Zodac and Man-e-Faces.
